In light of the media sharks who pounced on an isolated comment from one of the nation’s fast food CEOs, I have to respond with common sense. It is appalling to me that certain individuals who call themselves “journalists” have completely violated every standard of objective journalism. No matter what you believe about these comments made by Mr Cathy, founder and CEO of Chic-fil-a, if one analyzes the context of the response, one must seriously question why busy journalists would interrupt such horrific catastrophes-such as the spiraling-out-of-control collapse of the world’s former superpower- the USA, or the disintegration of one of America’s largest cities into a bloodbath zone (Chicago)- to cover an insignificant aside from a fast food CEO. What this story has done is to uncover the depths of subjectivity that American journalism has embraced. It is embarrassing when Russian Television is more objective than a standard American news network.
But, I am not surprised. No, the objectivity of the press has been disappearing as rapidly as the job market in the Disfunctional States of America. Unlike The Weekly World News, the big media (including Fox, MSN, and the others) have used deception as their main journalistic technique- don’t report the news, create it. I have only one word for that- despicable.
It is time we vote with our hands by using a remote to change the channel, pressing a button to avoid the yellow journalism presented on our computer devices, and seeking journalism that reports the news with as little bias or subjectivity as possible. While all publications tend to express some bias, the less the better. We must use the test of truth, fairness, and newsworthiness to decide what is good information to digest.
In the matter of Chic-fil-a, the media have created a backlash that they cannot fathom. Millions of supporters of Mr Cathy have come out of their….to support the man’s off-the-cuff comments by supporting his stores. This has to be one of the big media’s most inept attacks as it has mobilized one of the largest groups in this nation and put money into an institution the big media were attempting to tear down. Do not be fooled- some of the worst used car salesman in America are more trustworthy in their motives than these pride-filled piranhas. It is time to boycott the big media, not a family man expressing his freedom of speech.
