…state fair

…a lumberjack tossing a double-bladed axe high and wide…a one-man-band player with nine cords and a New York attitude…the Gyros man, not Greek, serving piping-hot pita-delights…a Pharmacy technician selling imodium under the grandstand…a woman hawking glittering new bathtubs…the Master Gardener showing off a fragrant row of heather and thyme…two fifteen year old girls from Lexington modeling T-shirts announcing “Free Hugs,” in a crowd of thousands of strangers…a ten year old boy lead by a wayward goat running along a paved walkway cluttered with slow-walking seniors…a middle aged man dancing with a walking stick, “singing in the rain”…Trace Adkins belting out a song as a fifteen year old dressed in all black tries out chords on his guitar, making up a song in the dimming light of the dying daylight…

…as pelting drops threaten to soak flyers and figures…a family of six rushes under a canopy, only to find themselves emerging as a healed, reunited family- after years of strife….an Afghan war veteran, in tears, recalling “the things I cannot forget,” decides to make a life-changing decision…a small town mayor starts collecting food for the poor, while sitting on the front porch of a museum…a state employee shares with a debt-ridden man how he can buy properties for as low as five dollars from the state government…small miracles in the making…

…just another day at the West Virginia State Fair…

About thelostkerryman

Thelostkerryman is an author, and entrepreneur- this side of Tir Na N'Og- living in the forests of a consistently confused country. Here in this hill country, hurling doesn't usually involve a hurley, store-made soda bread resembles an inedible Irish megalith, and Kerrygold is only found hidden like a luck penny in the belly of Kroger. His blogs are an account of his adventures, thoughts, eclectic -and eccentric- ramblings, random or insightful poetry, humor and non-humor, pictures (photos), video, essays, fiction, poetic fiction, nonfiction, drama, and writing he has not classified in the description above. All of his posts from thelostkerryman.wordpress.com, talesinastrangerstrangerland@wordpress.com, everydayasadisciple@wordpress.com, and mrandmrsboring.wordpress.com are copywrited according to international copywrite law.
